The National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (previously known as Regional Engineering College), is placed in the heart of Tamil Nadu on the banks of river Cauvery. The institute was formed in the year 1964. The NIT, Trichy is one of the 17th National Institutes of Technology recognized by the Government of India. The Institution was approved as Deemed University standing with the sanction of the UGC/AICTE and Govt. of India and renamed as National Institute of Technology. The NIT, Trichy offers 10 undergraduate and 22 graduate programs. Undergraduate programs lead to the B.Tech degrees, while the graduate students and postgraduate students earn M.Tech and Ph. D degrees respectively.
