GKU has been established by the Act of the Legislature of the state of Punjab, under the “GURU KASHI UNIVERSITY ACT 2011” (Punjab Act No 37 of 2011), to provide education at all levels in all disciplines of higher education (including professional, medical, technical, general education) through all the modes of education. The University has been set up with a mission of spreading the knowledge and empowering the youth so that they can contribute in the growth of the country and work for the welfare of the society. | Hostel | The university has got five boys' and one girls' hostel. The detail of the hostel accommodation available is as follows: Boys hostel named as- Himalaya Hostel (senior boys hostel) having the capacity of 195 students, Shivalik hostel (junior boys hostel 2nd & 3rd year) having the capacity of 192 students, Nilgiri hostel for Polytechnic students with the capacity of 212 students, Baba Deep Singh hostel for first-year students and is situated on Rama road near Police Station Chowk Talwandi Sabo city, which is about 2.5 km from the campus. Buses are provided to take the students from hostel to GKU Campus and then back, as per the requirement of the students, and Aravali hostel for first-year Boys with all the facilities and capacity is for 78 students.
