The Ashok Gehlot-led Rajasthan government has decided to review the situation and has formed a five-member ministerial committee to decide on the reopening date for schools, educational institutions and formulate SOPs for them. The decision has come after criticism from all sections of the society on unilaterally announcing the opening of school from August 2nd.
The new committee will comprise of Agriculture minister Lalchand Kataria, Health Minister Dr. Raghu Sharma, state Minister for Education Govind Singh Dotasara, state Minister for Higher Education Bhanwar Singh Bhati, and state minister for Health and Technical Education Dr. Subhash Garg.
The five-member ministerial committee has been given the task of seeking feedback and experience from the ministries of Health and Human resources of the Government of India, from ICMR, and from other states and deciding on the reopening of schools.
The move to form a ministerial committee comes after there was criticism of the Rajasthan government's decision to reopen schools from August 2. The decision was issued yesterday and now has been taken back in view of the current pandemic situation.
On Thursday, the Ashok Gehlot-led Rajasthan government announced its decision to allow the reopening of educational institutions including schools, colleges, and universities in the state, with several Covid-19 guidelines in place.
Soon after the cabinet meeting, state Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasra announced on Thursday, "At the Cabinet meeting held today, the decision was taken to open all schools in the state from August 2."
However, the government seemingly backtracked after there was criticism about allowing the reopening of schools from August 2 and the government decided to form a five-member committee to decide on the date of reopening of educational institutions and for the formulation of SOPs for them.
