On March 10, 2023, Punjab's Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema presented the state's budget for 2023-24. The budget allocated Rs 17,072 crore for school and higher education, which is a 12% increase from the previous year's budget. The government has identified 117 schools that will be upgraded to Schools of Eminence, and Rs 200 crore has been kept for the same. While presenting the budget, Harpal Cheema stated that education, health, and agriculture are among the priority sectors for the government. The total budget size has increased by 26% to Rs 1,96,462 crore for 2023-24 compared to the previous year.
