On Sunday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced the release of Rs 699 crore under the Jagananna Vidya Deevena program to provide full fee reimbursement to qualified students enrolled in various courses. The program is expected to benefit 9.8 lakh students enrolled in ITI, polytechnic, degree, engineering, medical, and other professional programs for the quarter of October to December 2022.
Students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, backward classes, minorities, Kapus, economically underprivileged classes, and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) categories will receive reimbursement under the program. The funds will be immediately transferred to the bank accounts of the mothers of the students.
The Chief Minister emphasized that education was the only way to improve the lives of the poor and that the Jagananna Vidya Deevena initiative was created specifically to provide disadvantaged students with access to higher education.
Andhra Pradesh has already remitted Rs 13,311 crore as part of this program and Jagananna Vasathi Devena. The former accounts for Rs 9,947 crore and provides benefits to up to 27 lakh pupils. Under Jagananna Vasathi Deevena, the government pays for the hostel and mess fees for students who fall below the poverty line.
The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of quality education in providing a better future and leading to a respectable lifestyle.
