The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday stressed on the need to include Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the education curriculum. He made the remarks during a meeting with officials of the education department and vice-chancellors of universities here. The CM called upon the officials to take steps to bridge the gap between targets and achievements in education in the backdrop of rapid changes taking place in the world.
Pointing out that Vice-Chancellors have an important role to play in higher education, he said that they should think of adopting a two-pronged strategy to keep pace with the emerging technologies. While adopting AI in the education system to improve teaching methods and learning skills, AI building skills should also be imparted to the students and should become a part of the curriculum,” he said.
"From the steam engine to electricity and computers, we have been their followers without any involvement in their creation," Reddy said in a press note. He told that the world is now witnessing the fourth revolution in the form of AI. Reddy advised the Vice-Chancellors to play an important role in higher education by adopting a two-pronged strategy to move ahead in tandem with emerging technologies.
The Chief Minister called for being part of the fourth revolution as creators and not just followers, and adopting AI in the education system to improve teaching methods and learning skills. Recalling the recent interaction with the German Consul General, the Chief Minister said that the European economic powerhouse was facing acute shortage of skilled human resources and all western countries were facing demographic imbalance.
Noting that 70 per cent of the people in the southern state are able to work, he said unless they are properly trained, they cannot play the role of guiding the world.
