About NHTET Exam

NCHMCT (an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India) conducts the National Hospitality Teachers Eligibility Test (NHTET) for the post of Assistant Lecturer and Teaching Associates in the NCHMCT affiliated institutes i.e. Institute of Hotel Management (IHM). The main aim of the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) is to overcome the situation and maintain the highest quality in hospitality education. The National Policy on Education on the official website states, “The method of recruitment of teachers will be reorganized to ensure merit, objectivity, conformity with spatial and functional requirements.”

NHTET Eligibility

Candidates must be aware of the NHTET Eligibility Requirements in order to determine whether or not they are eligible to apply for the position. The following factors outlines every aspect of eligibility:

The cut off date for age calculation will be as follows:

  • For NHTET to be held from January to May: 31st July of the same year. 
  • For NHTET to be held from July to October: 31st December of the same year

Educational Qualification

Candidates should meet the following educational requirements in order to be considered for the position of NHTET:

  • The applicants must hold a full-time bachelor's degree in hotel management or hospitality administration from an accredited university with a minimum of 55% overall. 
  • The applicant must also hold a full-time master's degree in hospitality administration or hotel management with a grade point average of 55% from an accredited university in addition to a bachelor's degree and at least two years of industry experience.
  • Candidates who are currently enrolled in their final year may also apply. These students must make sure they achieve a minimum grade point average of 55% on the qualifying exams.
  • Applicants to the second year of a bachelor's degree program are ineligible to apply for the NHTET.

Nationality

Candidates applying for the NHTET posts must be Indian citizens when applying.


NHTET Admit Card

Candidates who have successfully submitted the application form shall be receiving an admit card. They can access the admit card through their account login. The candidates shall enter the credentials which were created at the time of application form filling. Candidates shall enter their registration number and password to log in and take a printout of the NHTET admit card for the exam date. Admit card is a crucial document to be taken to the exam center along with an identity card.

NHTET Exam Pattern

Candidates who intend to sit for the NHTET exam should be familiar with the subject matter and test structure. The exam consists of three papers, each of which consist of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). For the convenience of the applicants, we have detailed the NHTET exam pattern below:

Written Exam
  • The duration of the exam is 4 hours of which 02 hours will be for paper I and Paper II collectively and 2 hours for Paper III.
  • Total Marks for the exam will be 400.
  • For each correct answer you will get 2 marks and for each incorrect answer, 1/2 mark will be deducted. The candidate will be given 0 marks if they don’t attempt the question.

Skill Test

The final selection will be made at the Institute Level through Skill tests for both i.e. NHTET qualified and Ph.D. degree holders. Skill will be of 50 marks and weightage for NHTET or Ph.D. up to 50 marks. Pass marks prescribed in the skill test for all categories is as under:

NHTET How to Apply

Candidates are advised to read the information brochure and proceed with the online application form submission. In addition to that, the applicants must make a DD (requisite amount of the NHTET application fee) from an approved bank. In case of any discrepancy, such as the wrong Demand Draft number and the printout sent by the candidate do not match the system, the application form is likely to be rejected. With these handy tips, you are ready to check the online portal and submit the form. The application process dates are yet to be announced.
 

How To apply NHTET Exam 2022 –
  • Visit the official portal www.thims.gov.in
  • Fill up all the required fields and upload the scanned passport size photograph with required pixel and resolution, valid ID card (PAN card, Aadhaar card, passport, driving license, Voter ID, etc.) with required pixel and resolution, etc.
  • Make sure there’s no error while filling out the form.
  • Provide valid email ID and active mobile number as well. These are important for future communication.
 

Application Fee:

  • For general and OBC category candidates, the application fee is  800/-.
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PD categories are required to submit an application fee of  400/-.
  • Female candidates are also required to pay an amount of  400/-.

Once the online application form is submitted, the applicants need to take a printout of the same i.e. application form. It consists of three pages. Send the printout along with DD (for the prescribed amount) to the Council within the stipulated time. The confirmation sheet should be sent to the exam conducting authority along with DD by speed post.
