The National Institute of Technology abridged (NIT), Agartala is Located in the city of Agartala, Tripura. It is one the leading Institutes in India. The Institute was formed in the year 1965. NIT, Agartala, a centrally funded Institution is setup to impart quality technical education into various streams and levels of higher learning. It may be mentioned here that the 23rd February 2006 is a Red Letter Day in the history of Tripura Engineering College as well as for the State of Tripura as the Union Cabinet approved the proposal of State Government for conversion of Tripura Engineering College to National Institute of Technology, a fully Central Government funded Institution with Deemed to be University status and would also to become a National Centre of Excellence. The priority for NIT, Agartala will remain the provision of excellent opportunities for learning and teaching, world leading student support, cutting edge research in a broad range of academic disciplines. | Hostel | There are a total of six hostels for the boys. There are lots of facilities provided by the hostel.. The boys interested for staying in the hostel have to fill up a prescribed form for admission to the hostel and have to deposit the necessary fees as decided by the concerned authorities. National Institute of Technology, Agartala has made staying of girls students in the hostel mandatory from the year 2012-13. There are 3 other hostels which have a total seat capacity of 340 and construction of another 1500 capacity hostel is going on.
