The institute is funded by the Govt. of Bihar and was established in the year 1954. It is one of the oldest technical education institutes in the eastern part of India. It is affiliated to Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna and offers undergraduate programs in engineering and pharmacy with postgraduate specialization in Machine design and thermal engineering. The institute has excellent research facilities and boasts of having one of the best modern labs, classroom and other facilities in the eastern part of India. The institute has an eminent group of faculties who believe in providing quality education with value based teaching to the students. The institute has Pharmacy and Leather Technology were added in 1978 and 1986 respectively. Information Technology and Electronics and Communication Engineering disciplines were introduced in 2001.
