Dr. M. V. Shetty Memorial Trust was instituted in memory of Dr. M.V. Shetty, M.S., FRCS, FRFPS (1917-1976) was an eminent Surgeon and Professor of Surgery. He was also a Commandant of Home Guards and Director of Lions Artificial Limb centre, Mangalore. Recognizing his meritorius service in the filed of health to the society, Dr. Shetty was awarded President's Gold Medal at the 28th Republic Day Celebrations. In his memory, the Dr. M.V. Shetty Memorial Trust (R) was founded in the year 1985 by his son Dr. M. Ramgopal Shetty, MS, FICS, FICA.,Vascular Surgeon, Mangalore.
